Out of the box, Cumulus can catalog PDFs, generate high-resolution PDF thumbnails and per-page previews, and even extract the entire text contents of PDF files into searchable metadata, making it easy to instantly find any file.
However, if your organization heavily utilizes PDFs, you may want more PDF functionality and control. The PDF Extended Pack helps manage large PDFs for easier access to all your information.
PDF Extended Pack
The PDF Extended Pack (formerly PDF AssetStore) deconstructs cataloged PDF files into individual asset records—one per PDF page. Each record (page) can have its own searchable metadata, and the entire text contents of the page becomes searchable metadata too. Cumulus can even create asset records for each image in PDF files. All “deconstruction” performed by Cumulus is completely non-destructive, so your original files are never modified. Imagine the benefit of per-page searching if you catalog technical manuals or other documents that contain hundreds of pages or more.
Inside each PDF are the pages and images that make up the file. The PDF Extended Pack enables Cumulus to create separate catalog records for each, which enables you to add per-page metadata, and find individual pages instead of just complete document. The entire text contents of PDFs becomes searchable metadata, so anyone can quickly find what they need without needing Adobe Acrobat or any other PDF application.
In addition, the PDF Extended Pack enables you to pick and choose pages from your cataloged PDF files to create brand new PDF files. By simply selecting individual pages and compiling them through Cumulus, you can create new PDF files instantly. It works over the Web the same way, so your customers and other remote users can grab what they need from your PDF archives.
None of the features provided by the PDF Extended Pack requires Acrobat. Cumulus handles all PDF management and rendering natively, so your PDFs are properly handled no matter which computer platform you use.
