Administration Superpower
Cumulus Enterprise is a systems administrator's best friend.
Designed based on the requests of the Cumulus admins at larger
installations, Enterprise makes administration for a thousand
users as easy it is for a single user.
Groups (Roles) and LDAP
Enterprise enables administrators to
set up groups called roles. Any number of roles can be created,
and users can be assigned to any number of them. Access permissions
are assigned to roles as a whole, making it possible to update
potentially hundreds of user accounts with a single mouse
click.
The permissions options in
Cumulus are vast, but easy to configure. This image shows
one set of permissions for users in the "Contributors"
role (group). Permissions are typically set by your Cumulus
Administrator, but "super users" can also be given
the rights to adjust the permissions of others, which is a
great back up for those times your admin is away. Here, basic
permissions settings are defined for all users in the "Contributors"
role for the catalog "Website_Screenshots."
Making admin even easier at organizations
that use LDAP servers for user authentication, Enterprise
enables you to map your LDAP groups to Cumulus roles, set
access permissions for the roles, and you're done. No need
to create separate Cumulus user accounts, which means you
can update user information on your LDAP server—including
user additions and deletions—and know that Cumulus Enterprise
will reflect the changes. So, hire a new designer and put
her into your Designers LDAP group. That's all you need to
do—she's ready to go in Cumulus Enterprise immediately,
with all the same access permissions as others in your Designers
group.
Hardware Horsepower and Database Mirroring
Cumulus Enterprise takes advantage
of every ouch of processing power you throw at it, offering
support for multiprocessors, unlimited threads, and even database
cache sizing above the 2GB wall imposed by 32-bit Windows
systems.
Collectively, these options can increase
performance dramatically, especially for work groups that
use many catalogs, or have large category trees.
In addition to the mirroring options
supported in Cumulus, Cumulus Enterprise enables admins to
mirror their metadata to Oracle systems.
Mirroring options in Cumulus
Enterprise include Oracle databases in addition to the standard
systems supported.
Record and Category Permissions
If you ever need to define access permissions
for individual asset records or categories, Cumulus Enterprise
enables you to do just that. You can add or remove access
to an entire selection of asset records or categories in a
single step. And, you can define those permissions for individuals
or entire groups at once.
Cumulus Enterprise enables
users to assign access permissions on an individual asset
record or category basis. Here. the user Tarec is being granted
Web access permissions for the selected asset.
Permissions templates enable you to
handle common access permissions changes just like you were
using a rubber stamp: select the asset records or categories,
select a Permissions Template, and you're done.
Used in conjunction with the Cumulus
Scheduler, Permissions Templates can be applied automatically
by Cumulus Enterprise, based on queries and schedules you
define.
Permissions Templates enable
users to create "rubber stamps" that add or remove
permissions for certain users or groups.
Catalogs Super-sized and Servers Protected
Cumulus Enterprise catalogs
can be as large as 1 terabyte (TB). This means that the massive
metadata collections of larger installations can be managed
in a single catalog. If a terabyte still isn't large enough,
keep in mind that a single Cumulus Enterprise Server can host
as many catalogs as you need, at no additional cost.
Your Cumulus Enterprise license entitles
you to run a second copy of the Server on another machine
for redundancy purposes. So, if your San Francisco server
goes offline, you can easily redirect your users to your Sydney
server. Server redundancy is also handy during periods of
routine system maintenance.
Even better, catalog journaling helps ensure your catalogs aren't damaged in the event of a system failure. Journaling is enabled through a single check box, even for older catalogs.
Using Cumulus, it doesn't matter
where your assets, users or Cumulus systems are located.
Web Services Connectivity
Full read/write support for Web Service
is included in Cumulus Enterprise, making it possible (and
easy) to interface your new digital asset management system
with other systems for minimal development costs.
