Enhanced Support for the PDF File Format
All Cumulus systems offer native
support for the PDF format that includes:
- Cataloging of PDF files.
- Create automatic category structures
based on PDF keywords.
- Extract some or all of a PDF file's
text to searchable metadata.
- Automatic extraction of PDF-embedded images.
- Printing collections (thumbnails)
to PDF, even without Acrobat installed.
- Online previews of multipage PDF
documents.
The two products options featured
below provide support in addition to the capabilities listed
above:
PDF
AssetStore If you need to have the
various pages of a PDF file cataloged individually, the PDF
AssetStore is for you. Using it, each page of a PDF file becomes
its own asset record, complete with its own metadata. This
enables users to easily find individual pages, which is a
huge benefit when your PDF files are large. If you need information
on page 376, you can get at it without having to download
375 other pages too.
Using the PDF Page Merger asset processor that comes with all Cumulus 7.5 servers, you can even assemble new PDF files based on the pages contained in those you've cataloged using the PDF AssetStore.

The PDF AssetStore module enables
you to turn cataloged PDF files into individual asset records,
each complete with its own set of metadata fields. Those individual
records can then be saved out as a brand new PDF in any combination
you need. Here, a PDF file is shown in the top pane and all
Contained Pages are shown below.
2PDF
AssetProcessor Converting cataloged files to
PDF on the fly is what the 2PDF AssetProcessor is all about.
This enables you to catalog master documents into your Cumulus
system without having to also store PDF versions too. So long
as the creating software and Acrobat are installed on your
Cumulus Server, Cumulus can generate PDFs on the fly.
- Centrally convert files to PDF on-the-fly
from anywhere.
- Store & manage files in their
original format, retrieve & publish them in PDF.
- Individually choose PDF job options
stored on the server.
