Cumulus 7.5 Sneak Peek

Don't let the ".5" designation fool you—Cumulus 7.5 is a fantastic new upgrade chock full of customer feature requests.

Support for Windows Vista, Office 2007 and InDesign 3 only begins to describe the many benefits of this massive update. In addition to the features introduced below—and many more still under wraps—Canto engineers have made improvements to the Cumulus Core engine that will serve as the foundation for some remarkable new benefits you'll find in Cumulus 8.

We hope you enjoy this sneak peek at Cumulus 7.5 and remember: you'll need a Customer Portal account to download the software when it ships. So sign up for your free account today!

Collection Basket in the Native Clients for Easy Gathering

Now you have a convenient place to drag and drop the asset records you want to gather for emailing, downloading, processing and more. Thumbnails are represented using a new scalable technology that permits variable view sizes, and convenient access to asset actions is provided.

Collection Window

The Collection Basket makes it easy to gather asset records from one or more catalogs into a single location from which you can access, email, or process them through asset actions in a single step. Other Collection Basket options enable you to update the main collection window and even save a new collection from the basket's contents.

Formula Fields for Custom Displays and More

The contents of fields in Cumulus 7.5 can be filled by formulas defined in the field properties window. Formulas can be as simple as adding the values of two or more fields, or they can be as complex as statements that serve as if-then-else decision makers. As a side-benefit of this powerful new feature, record view sets can be more space efficient by combining the values of multiple fields onto one line.

Field Forumlas for Display

This field formula converts the value stored in the Duration field into a string that's more meaningful to users. Instead of seeing 2.3345, users see a rounded value complete with descriptive strings on either side of the numeric value. Using formulas in this way, you can do away with ever adding Field Names to your view sets, and save all the space they require. Example: Now you can construct a single display value on one line from four separate fields that reads, "TIF: 1800 x 1600 at 300 dpi." Previously, this would have required a full 4 vertical lines in the thumbnail view, and twice that number if field names were shown.

Hiding Category Tabs and Showing Assigned Asset Records

Among new category view set configuration options are the ability to hide one or more category tabs, and also to display the number of asset records assigned to each category. Permissions already make it easy to restrict certain users and roles to certain category view sets, but now by doing so, you also limit the tabs users can see in a single step.

Hide Category Tabs

When configuring category view sets, you can now limit which category tabs are visible when that view set is chosen. You can also display the number of asset records assigned to each category. This catalog, configured to demonstrate Canto's new Video Suite 2, is shown using a category view set that displays only one of the available category tabs. Hide the $All tab, the $Sources tab or any other tabs you need.

When you upgrade to Cumulus 7.5, you'll benefit from these new features and many more! If your organization uses one of the Canto Web Clients, be prepared for some significant upgrades there too, both in terms of performance and ease of use.

Once again, make sure you have set up your free customer portal account—you won't be able to access the new software without it!
