Cumulus Power Tips - Web-based Previews of Any File Type One of the great new features of the Cumulus 7.5 Web clients is the "Show Original" function. As you know, Cumulus handles the preview of many file types internally, but sometimes it's best to handle the job to a Web browser plugin, or even an external application. "Show Original" makes this easy. Some of the more Web-popular file formats this works great with are PDF, Flash and QuickTime. Files of those types are handed to the Web browser to display using it's plugins. This means that you have the full functionality of those plugins while previewing, which is great! For this tip, we'll show the use of a PowerPoint file opening up in OpenOffice, and we'll use Firefox as our Web browser. The steps are easy:
From that point on, when you use the "Show Original" command on a PowerPoint file, it will download and display in your chosen application automatically.
A PowerPoint presentation has been selected in the Web client and "Show Original" was the menu option chosen. The file is downloaded and opened in OpenOffice on this Linux computer. This file association was made by the user during a previous download. Now, each time she chooses to "Show Original" on a PowerPoint file, she'll see it displayed in OpenOffice automatically. (Of course, PowerPoint could also be chosen for the previews, if installed on a supported computer platform. |
